Garden fresh Arugula Pesto!

October 3, 2012

Ok, So I’m a little bit late in posting this… but over the summer I harvested all of our arugula and made arugula pesto!

I would have made lots of salads, but the arugula was really small and incredibly spicy.  I had some very kind family who helped me out by planting the arugula for me, and they planted the plants in their entirety within the soft planters the came in.  I know it “says” you can do that, but it definitely stunted the plants’ growth.  they hardly grew very big at all, and when I took them out, there were very few roots that grew past the planter.  So always make sure you take the plants out of those brown planter thingies!

Anyways, I did get some yield out of my 12 plants, and I made pesto out of it, which was pretty yummy!

I unfortunately cant find the exact recipe… but it was basically arugula, pine nuts, parmesan cheese, lemon zest and lemon.  I also added some salt and pepper.  Oh and of course, extra virgin olive oil.

It was pretty good!  The only thing I would do differently next time is put less pine nuts, because they tempered the arugula a little too much.  I felt like I wanted more of the arugula bite in there.

But all in all it turned out tasting good…

and I enjoyed eating it over pasta!

YUM! (this is protein enriched wheat pasta, so it actually has a good serving of protein in there..not just carbs)

Did any of you make any fun new garden inspired dishes this summer?

My new “toy”

October 2, 2012

I have a new toy…

macbook air waterproof case

I LOVE IT!

It is the Macbook Air 11 inch.

I was debating between the new iPad and this…and this miniature machine won out!

It is SO much more versatile than the iPad would have been (I have the original iPad already too).  I really bought it for work, and it has really made me more efficient.

There was one problem…I work in a hospital, where there are germs everywhere! And I am a germ-o-phobe (i know, not a great combination for a doctor =)

So, I made myself this cover to keep the macbook in.

It is made of a vinyl tablecloth (the leftover fabric that I had after making this circular changing pad)  which is great because I can wipe it down with antiseptic cloths.

I made it kind of like a messenger bag, so that I would be able to carry it when I go into patient rooms, without putting it down anywhere.

Since it is super small, it is very light and I could barely feel I was wearing it!

I used this tutorial for a zippered pouch to make the bag.  It was vey straightforward and took about an hour.  It was a productive day!

Hi everyone – I hope your weekend was great!

It’s time for another Mystery Monday…

Mystery Monday – Week 11

September 24, 2012

Well I barely got this up this week.  I don’t know what is going on, but these days I am SOOOOOO tired!  I usually try to get things done in the evening after the kiddos go to sleep, but these days I’m beat and just want to sleep then too!  Of course, things keep coming up and inevitably I sleep late anyways…except without doing the fun stuff I want!

Anyways, it is the 11th Mystery Monday today!

Here is the image (I’m not putting up a hint because I think it will make it easier than it already is!):

Any guesses?

Last week’s image:

brought in these guesses:

wooden blinds

and the answer is…

Ripples in the water at sunset!

Good guess Holly!

Thanks guessing guys!

Mystery Monday…barely!

September 17, 2012

Hi everyone!  I hope you all had a good weekend.

I spent mine working, and doing several other things that needed to get done but werent on my to do list of things to get done (like cooking!).

Anyways, here is this week’s mystery monday picture:

Any guesses?

Last week’s image:

encouraged some interesting guesses including:

a leaf

a “microscopic pic of something”

a leaf… =)

And you guys were right, it was a leaf!  You are all budding biologists!

Its funny when I was thinking of doing this picture, I asked my husband (also a doctor) what he thought, and he said “of course its a leaf!”  But I thought perhaps not everyone had the same histology exposure as we did, so I asked my mother in law, and she was stumped….

But it looks like more people were right on!

Thanks for guessing!

Mystery Monday

September 10, 2012

Good morning everyone!

Hope you all had a good weekend.  We are a surprisingly BUSY weekend.  Yesterday we left the house with both kids to visit friends at 10AM and then went to a work party in the evening…not getting home until 8:30pm!  I have to say that I was tired by the time we got home, let alone the kiddos!  But they both did SOO well.  S, our 6 month old, literally did not cry once!  Even though his naps were thoroughly botched for the day.  He was GREAT.  I couldn’t ask for anything more!

Here is this week’s Mystery Monday image:

Hint: “Back to basics”

Ideas?

Last week’s image:

Brought in these guesses:

A leaf turning color

A butterfly wing

Pieces of indian cloth sewed together

The answer is:

A butterfly wing!

Good guessing everyone!

The Charlie Dress still fits!

September 4, 2012

A while back I bought Rae’s Charlie Tunic pattern, and had a lot of fun making this dress version for R.  I made it skinnier than the pattern calls for, since she is a skinny minny.

But the cool thing is, that it still fits!

I put it on last week for the first time in maybe 8-10 months, and was so happy to see that it still fits!

I made it extra long to begin with, so that it would work for a while – so that helped.

And as you can see, she had a ton of fun playing around in it and being silly!

Now I’m going to try to make a small version for my 6 month old boy…did I just say SIX MONTHS!!

AHH!

I can’t believe it has already been almost 6 months!!!

Excuse me while I go hyperventilate while having visions of the kiddos growing up and going off to college…….

Mystery Monday

September 3, 2012

Happy Labor Day everyone!

Hope everyone has been having a great holiday weekend with some time to relax with friends and family.

Here is this week’s Mystery Monday image and hint:

“Transformation”

Last week’s image:

Had many guesses…almost all of which were correct!

The picture was of a cluster of colorful pencil erasers!

Thanks for guessing everyone!

Mystery Monday

August 27, 2012

Hi everyone! I’m off work this week, so finally getting a chance to breathe and get some things done. We spent the entire day yesterday trying to get the kitchen back in order (pictures to come!).  We have remodeled it, and all it’s contents have been sitting in our guest bedroom for about a month!  So I’m tired but happy to have things back in order!

Here is this week’s colorful Mystery Monday picture!

Hint: “Nothing lasts forever”

Thanks for the guesses last week!

The picture:

Brought in these guesses:

A cheese grater

A glove

A colander/strainer

Oven mits

A zester

A wire basket

A microplane

And the answer is…

A wire basket in a store!

So we had one correct guess – good job! I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that she was with me when I took it 😉

Mystery…Wednesday?

August 22, 2012

I can’t believe it is already Wednesday evening!  Where did the week go?

We were out of town last week until this Monday evening, and my whole schedule got derailed.  SOOOOO, I’m posting my Mystery “Monday” for this week on Wednesday =)

This week’s picture is below.  Coming up with a hint for this one without giving too much away is tough…..

But we will go with this hint (updated):

An extra set of hands

Let the guessing begin!

Last week’s image:

mystery monday bowling lanes

brought in the following guesses:

swimming lanes

tanning beds

bowling lanes

..the answer is…

Bowling lanes!

And above you can see my little one taking a break from her dancing to watch her ball roll down the blacklit lane!

Thanks for guessing guys, and hope everyone is having a great week!
